Bachelordom

Being a Bachelor: (of sorts)

Surfing the net I came across an article on the international habits of single men. After reading it I had a cup of tea – marched around the flat shouting at the walls as I am prone to do these days turning over what he had said. Called my girl friend and had an argument about commitment and passports. Measured how big my beer belly had become – shot one off into my socks and finally sat down with this.

The average relationship lasts about 2 years for me. There was one that went for 4.5 years, about 11 years ago, but apart from that slight digression from form, singledom suits some of us just fine. Being alone is another matter – just can’t seem to be alone for long. Longest was about three weeks I think between relationship break down. The majority of men I’ve met on my travels have all been married and shagging themselves senseless when away from home. It would be self righteous to judge them, but after reading Kanazawa, I think I’ve come to understand why that happens at least.

According to Satoshi Kanazawa, Ph.D., a professor of psychology at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand., men’s value as a mate (long term) is culture bound to cars, homes, business cards and ultimately your job. Well, you can’t carry around your BMW and mortgage, and only young girls are impressed with the troubadours amongst us, which is a relief as this guarantees some kind of youth I suppose, so marriage gets the female vote for stability and improved quality of life. He goes on to say that a male who is married is certainly more attractive and has more of an aptitude for international travel, which would suggest that you get married then leg it every weekend and month to far away places leaving said soul mate to rear rug rats while you harvest your oats, reluctantly of course, with the knowledge of a safety net at home.

After traveling for the last 10 years and evading marriage, or commitment, or whatever tag we need to place on it, I’d have to say he’s talking utter bollocks. He also says that single people (include the girls) are less likely to find relationships with foreigners as single males dislike foreign terrain and are xenophobic - should note that his research was based on American males… and 16000 European males flight habits. Oh, I see, read some flight data and you get some tangible evidence of singledom in males and international mating rituals – more bollocks!

It would seem that marriage is the universal, culturally transferable, shag worthy relationship qualifier, which means getting married will actually guarantee more habitual international shagging as you do indeed have the BMW, house and can commit to a real relationship…. And suddenly be a good investment and a reliable male to get serious with ……

Now I understand everything.
